Brand marketers, search engines and the Super Bowl
In the time frame immediately following the Super Bowl, searches for
Pepsi increased 60 percent on Yahoo along with thousands of searches
for the "Brown and Bubbly" site represented in Super Bowl ads.
Searches for ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" increased roughly 400 percent
in the same time frame. Warner Bros. "V for Vendetta" spot initiated
a 400 percent increase in search share that was unanswered in
sponsored results. Brand marketers have always struggled with
purchasing their brand names in sponsored listings. In this process
of evaluating a paid search presence, it is worth noting that many
of these sites maintained high rankings in natural results.

Test drive Yahoo's new My Web 2.0 interface
One of the main purposes of services
like My Web 2.0 is sharing, and searching the tags of other users
definitely improves sharing. In their blog, Yahoo promises to keep
improving the sharing features. My Web to go is a new feature
especially for bloggers. It’s a badge that lets you insert your
most recently saved pages on your blogs. These new features are
launched not long after Yahoo bought the hugely popular social
bookmarking tool de.lici.ous. Now you can edit 20 bookmarks at a time. This is great for changing
the tags on imported bookmarks. Another new feature is the option
to search everybody’s tags.

Google's consumerization of enterprise search
Many enterprise customers have had their notions of how search
should function changed by the Web and by Google.com, Weitz said.
This so-called consumerization of enterprise search can happen, but
only through careful integration of legacy systems, customized
application plug-ins and other on-the-ground assistance, he added.
In the deal, the financial terms of which were not disclosed, Google
gains a high-profile partner and almost instant cache within large
enterprises, including the top 100 companies in key fields such as
pharmaceuticals and financial services, where enterprises are eager
to better leverage the data they already have.

The EFF sends a strong message about Google's security issues
"Unless you configure Google Desktop very carefully, and few people
will, Google will have copies of your tax returns, love letters,
business records, financial and medical files, and whatever other
text-based documents the Desktop software can index," he added.
In a strongly worded statement, Bankston warned that the government
could demand access to personal files with only a subpoena rather
than the search warrant it would need to seize the same things from
a user's home or business.

Google increased its market share even though all three top search
engines were used for more searches. Google's growth was strong
enough that its competitors' market share declined.

The National Federation for the Blind sues Target.com
Are both responsible? A 50-50 split? 75-25? Does the Amazon.com
engine that is powering the site even allow Target developers make
it accessible? Depending on the functionality of the Amazon engine,
can it be considered an Authoring Tool and thus subject to the
Authoring Tool Accessibility Guidelines?
